Some Monday mornings you will awake stretching, ready to the embrace the world outside in all of its philosophical complexity – but on other occasions, a Monday morning demands a more gradual approach. For those times, there are artists like Mariano Peccinetti. Working under the pseudonym Trasvorder, the collage artist blends sci-fi and surrealism to hypnotic effect – stellar galaxies form the background to rocky scenes scattered with 1950s-style bathers, while the recognisable faces of John Lennon and Yoko Ono are partially replaced by fantastical mountain ranges for faces. His capacity with a scalpel is a thing to behold, transforming the most humdrum of vintage ads into majestic scenes which soothe the mind even as they beguile it. Peccinetti has also generously converted many of his surreal works into framed prints, mugs, tote bags and throws, making his work ideal Christmas gift material, as well as digital eye candy.
