We present the long-awaited trailer for Yves Saint Laurent, the biopic
Who? Last month Yves Saint Laurent – Jalil Lespert's biopic detailing the lauded designer's rise to fame – took French box offices by storm. Happily, English-speaking YSL fans won't have to wait much longer to watch for themselves as a March release date has just been announced and a subtitled trailer released.
What? Beginning in Paris, in 1957, the film sees a 21-year-old Saint Laurent, played by Pierre Niney, thrust into the international spotlight as Christian Dior's successor. It traces the designer's first catwalk show, his integral meeting with future lover and business partner Pierre Bergé, and the career highs and lows which resulted in the creation of his eponymous fashion house and revolutionary ready-to-wear collection.
"Bergé found Niney's likeness to his past love so remarkable that he almost greeted him, 'Welcome Yves'"
Why? Shot at real locations in Paris and Morocco, featuring stunning original garments from the Yves Saint Laurent haute couture collection archive, and backed by Bergé himself (he reportedly found Niney's likeness to his past love so remarkable that he almost greeted him, "Welcome Yves"), the film promises to serve as an enthralling and authentic reminder of Saint Laurent's genius and legacy as a liberator of women.
Yves Saint Laurent will be in cinemas nationwide from March 21.
