Tomorrow marks the ten-year anniversary of Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and to celebrate we've compiled a playlist of our favourite Anderson soundtrack moments

A Wes Anderson film is a finely brewed concoction, all elements – from the enchanting colour palettes and inimitable set design to the idiosyncratic characters – working in perfect harmony to create an experience that is entirely immersive; and the music is no exception. For each of his films (bar the first, Bottle Rocket), Anderson has paired up with Randall Poster, one of the film industry's most revered music supervisors, to track down the perfect songs to complement his stories. Occasionally, the duo will feature old favourites, like The Faces "Ooh La La" or Paul Simon's "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard"; more often than not, they will revive lesser-known songs from the back catalogues of the greats – think The Kinks, Nico and The Rolling Stones – and sometimes they go for something a little different, like the amazing discovery of Seu Jorge, the Brazilian actor and musician whose David Bowie covers beautifully embellish The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.

Tomorrow marks the 10-year anniversary of Anderson's much-loved masterpiece and fourth feature film, which follows whimsical oceanographer Steve Zissou (Bill Murray) on his submarine-borne quest to exact revenge against the "Jaguar shark" that ate his business partner. Here, in celebration of the film and of the curating wizardry of Anderson and Poster in general, we've compiled a playlist of brilliant songs from Anderson's films.
