We celebrate the softer side of pit bulls via a brilliant (flower-filled) series by French photographer Sophie Gamand
Of all the dogs, big and small, that make up the canine species, pit bulls are perhaps the ones with the worst rep. Tough, strong and stocky – although naturally good tempered – pit bulls are often abused by owners looking to encourage their more vicious side. For this reason, they frequently find themselves in need of rehoming but with disparagingly few offers from potential adopters.
With a view to fighting the pit bull’s corner, US-based, French photographer Sophie Gamand set about on a mission to demonstrate the breed's softer side, seeking out models from various rescue shelters in New York and decking them in floral garlands to utterly endearing and smile-inducing effect and dubbing the series, Flower Power: Pit Bulls of the Revolution. Not merely hoping to find her prettified pups homes, Gamand also opted to donate all proceeds from the print sales to the rescue homes in question. So whether these pictures inspire you to adopt your own pit bull, purchase a print or simply raise a smile and a little love for the underdog, we hope they help to get your week off to a cheery start!
