You know it’s September when the invitations begin to stack up again, and as I rummage through a pile of cards to pick out the gems there are five definite highlights. Vyner Street in London’s east end is a hive of emerging artistic activity this week, Stephen Jones is the subject of an impressive retrospective at MoMu in Antwerp, London’s Royal Academy unveils its grand plans for 2011, Porto Vecchio is invaded by the fabulous, young and French for its musical festival, and The Finnish Institute gives us a rounded taste of its country’s culture.
Monday September 6 – Honey Im at GIFT at 10 Vyner Street, London
GIFT at 10 Vyner Street is renowned for its carefully selected and curated artworks, and it doesn’t disappoint with its current show by Korean artist Honey Im. Engaging with issues surrounding femininity and nature through her energetic paintings, the Chelsea College of Art graduate transports visitors to a naturalistic dreamland, filled with birds, trees and bright colours that is as entrancing as it is unsettling.

From September 8 MoMu in Antwerp is hosting a retrospective of the work of milliner supreme Stephen Jones, celebrating his 30 years in the industry.

Taking place across the sublime beaches of Corsica, the town of Porto Vecchio and at Via Notte (the largest open air club in Europe), this light-hearted music festival, courtesy of a group of French dance music obsessives, is all about fun, fun, fun.
Friday September 10 – Launch of Hel Yes! At the London Design Festival, London
A presentation of design and food from Helsinki (organised by the Finnish Institute), Hel Yes! officially opens from September 15, running throughout the London Design Festival, with a special preview tonight.
