Ahead of Mother’s Day, the designer and former Another Man cover star shares an imaginary shopping list which pays tribute to her own mother, from a custom-made jacket to a trip to an Oxford museum

Mothering Sunday is upon us this weekend and along with it the usual last-minute petrol-station bouquets and Best-Mum-in-the-World-themed merchandise. But what if you could give your mother everything she ever wanted? In answer, London’s brightest young designers have compiled imaginary shopping lists for their own – here, former Another Man cover star Dilara Findikoglu pays tribute to her own mother with five fantasy gifts: from an embellished jacket from her own label to a trip out of London to Oxford’s Ashmolean Museum.

”My mum is one of the softest mums, she just gets on really well with everyone. She’s always calm and positive in any situation and I think that inspires me to try to be more calm in stressful situations. She worked really hard with my dad when they moved to Istanbul from a village in Turkey to build a secure life for their children, and that really inspires me to work hard. Being in a different country far from her, it’s really difficult sometimes... But I know that whenever I’m sad or stressed I can call her and I immediately feel comforted – as soon as I hear her voice I feel relaxed. If I didn’t have her support whilst working abroad I don’t think I could do it, I’m so grateful for her always being there for me.” – Dilara Findikoglu

1. A Dilara Findikoglu custom jacket

”I think she’d love a custom Dilara Findikoglu jacket, one that’s heavily beaded and embellished!”

2. Afternoon tea at the Ritz

”It’s a bit cliché but I would love to take her to the Ritz for an afternoon tea as I know she’s wanted to go for a long time. Her friends in Istanbul told her it was a really glamorous thing to do in London.”

3. A day with the best plastic surgeon

”She’s always wanted to have little things done to her face, small things like botox and fillers, so I would book her a day with one of the best plastic surgeons.”

4. A trip to the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford

”I’d love to take her to Oxford to go to the Ashmolean Museum as she’d enjoy seeing the porcelain and ceramic collections they have there. She always complains that she only comes to London and never sees other cities so I’d like to take her there.”

5. A castle

”A castle as she’s the queen of the family.”
