Here in her first exclusive interview Polly Bean, the supermodel who has graced the pages of Private Eye for the past 20 years, confidently tells us about how her unique look has been perceived in the fashion industry.
"There are a lot of stunningly attractive people out there, especially in fashion, but you have to have that certain something special, something that separates you from the others. It’s important to recognise this, and nurture it...use your talents and skills, sticking to your strengths and being true to yourself. Also, if I was to be honest, I feel I have been incredibly lucky in my career. I’ve been fortunate enough to meet some wonderful people and experience some amazing situations. I also have a very unique look and a special kind of beauty. I call it ‘Beaunique’. I feel that my look represents a sense of fun and quirkiness. I call this ‘Firkiness’.
I’m incredibly fortunate in that I can eat what I want and not worry too much about beauty regimes or cosmetic procedures. I have never had wrinkles or saggy bits, and I certainly don’t have a fat bum. I think, if I was to be honest, I’m just naturally very beautiful. I don’t know why. I just am. I am always looking over my shoulder, worrying about the next big thing, a model who might come along and take my place. But fortunately that will never happen. No one can take my place.
I intend to keep modeling for all the top fashion brands, keep my blog interesting, and generally bring a smile to world, while still informing and advising. However, I would also like to settle down at some point, have children, do the school run with Claudia, and launch perfume and cosmetics."
