The sale features over 100 prints available to buy for just $100, and each work is themed on ‘Imagination’
Magnum Photos’ twice yearly Square Print Sale – in which signed or estate-stamped, museum-quality prints are available to buy for just $100 – launches today, this time in partnership with the New York-based Aperture Foundation. Themed on ‘Imagination’, the week-long sale features inspiring images by the world’s best photographers: Mary Ellen Mark, Alec Soth, Joel Meyerowitz, Don McCullin, Leonard Freed, Sunil Gupta, Nan Goldin, Susan Meiselas, Bruce Davidson, Gregory Halpern, among many others.
The Square Print Sale features over 100 photographs. “Toward the end of a year that has seen a series of international events unparalleled in recent memory, these images bring together a collection of works from disparate storytelling and artistic practices: works of fact and fiction with the potential to inspire our social and artistic imagination,” reads a statement from Magnum Photos as the sale launches this afternoon.
Among the selection are images of vast landscapes, historical figures – Martin Luther King appears twice – and some from recognisable series. Two collectives also feature in the sale, Wide Awakes and For Freedoms, both of which are artist-led organisations: the former based on the 1860 Wide Awake movement which mobilised against slavery and now working to get out the vote; the latter “models and increases creative civic engagement, discourse and direct action”.
