SUB-MERGE will explore the relationship between art, technology and mental health, with all profits going to charity Mind
A new photographic exhibition and print sale is being launched today to raise funds for mental health charity Mind. SUB-MERGE is a visual exploration of the relationship between art, technology and mental health, and features work from Harley Weir, Ed Atkins, and Jasper Spicero, among others.
Technology is often framed as having a harmful effect on our mental wellbeing, but this show wishes to challenge that perception. Instead, it makes a point of celebrating the transformative potential of new media, by platforming artists who are pioneers of digital image-making.
“We invited image makers using technology to explore the worlds merged in our sub-conscious,” explain Nick Hadfield and Mikey Opie O’Grady from Emulsion, the creative studio behind the show. “We hope it will open a broader dialogue around the relationship between technology, ‘reality’ and the mind.”
SUB-MERGE comes at an urgent time for Mind – the fraught world events of 2020, combined with the oncoming festive season, are likely to make mental health a more prominent social issue over the next few weeks. “At this time of year, the sense of loneliness and isolation is more desperate and tangible than ever before,” stress the organisers.
For this reason, EMULSION will be making a one-off donation to Mind, and donating all profits from the show’s accompanying print sale to the charity.
The SUB-MERGE print sale runs until December 14 at submerge.emulsion.online. All prints are 12x16 inches and priced at £100 with 100 per cent of proceeds donated to Mind. For more information contact hello@emulsion.online.
