Who? The Fondation d’entreprise Ricard in Paris, a space committed to the development of the young French art scene, is currently hosting its annual art prize exhibition. This year’s display, entitled The Seabass, is curated by Éric Troncy and features, amongst others, the work of AnOther’s longstanding contributing photographer Erwan Frotin as well as that of industrial designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec and painter Loïc Raguénès.
What? The show is a review of surrealism in French young contemporary creation, combining the broad range of mediums and visions of the different artists and playing with the status of the works, questioning traditional concepts of art, photography and design. The exhibition features a number of Frotin’s striking, hyper-real photographs of intricate flower details and surreal sculptures, which have never before been shown in Paris, a selection of which is included in the accompanying gallery below.
Why? For the new issue, AnOther Magazine Issue 21, Frotin worked with AnOther fashion editor Agata Belcen on a story which showcases fine jewellery from houses including Cartier, Chanel and Bulgari. His eye for clean, well-balanced compositions, however elaborate the subject, lends itself perfectly to capturing the mesmerising complexities of precious jewels and stones. Thus, the beauty and delicacy of the designs he photographed were expertly enhanced without being overpowered. The final outcome of The Seabass exhibition is the selection of this year’s Prize Fondation d'entreprise Ricard winner from the artists involved, a reward that includes the purchase of one of the artist’s works and its donation to the permanent collection of the Centre Pomidou.
The Seabass runs from September 13 - October 29 2011 at the Fondation d’entreprise Ricard, Paris.
