Beauty flourishing from apprehension, Dennis Schoenberg and Matteo Giordano create a stirring video for Komakino spring/summer 12.
"I met Berlin-based artist Matteo Giordano whilst working on one of our collections a few years ago," designer Federico Capalbo, who is based in London, explains. "He wasn't doing art at the time but had a very clear aesthetic which had more than one point in common with ours. I've followed him since, captivated by his ability to describe a moment (the contemporary/futuristic technologic era). Articulated and absolute, his ethic has its roots in the rapture between the awareness of the contemporary individual and the futility/fruibility of consumerist images. Very important when we're unaware of where this accelerated technological revolution – like the industrial revolution of the 18th and 19th century – is bringing us."
Photographer Schoenberg returns after creating a spring/summer 11 film for the label that's worn by both the likes of The xx and the great anonymous. "I have always admired the realness of Dennis' work, it is again a question of sharing a similar point of view and being able to communicate similar feelings. We like working together, he is part of the team."
To a soundtrack by NON, the screen is divided into parts, with two different outfits on the same body – an expression of unity mirroring the collection's exploration of a focused identity. This season the clothes reflect the idea of skin: latex, laser cutting, incision and folding, camoflage.
"A feeling of intensity through the use of slow-motion: determination and touch, will and intimacy. We aimed to portray the core of our work," Capalbo summarises.
