Following the launch of AnOthermag.com's Spring Clean, we thought it only appropriate to share the team and our international contributors' treasured moments. Ranging from January's intimate film Exclusive on fashion designer Rick Owens and his wife Michele Montagne, memorable interviews, favourite columns to our special Love-ins on AnOther Loves...
Laura Bradley, Commissioning editor of AnOther... "One of my favourite office moments was the launch of AnOther's pets column, in particular, discovering Audrey Hepburn's pet fawn Pippin and receiving Tom Ford and Richard Buckley's personal dog photos. Pets can reveal a lot about a person's personality – I really enjoyed researching Frida Kahlo. Artist Yvonne Lacet's cityscape interpration of Serge Lutens' make-up range for our Object of Desire column was standout."
Christopher James, digital director of AnOther… "I love how the site builds editorial strength and consistency through the columns. My favourite is AnOther Thing I Wanted to Tell You... because it's so genuinely engaging at a human interest level, and opens up the appeal to people who may or may not appreciate the selected artists work."
Harriet Walker, columnist for In The Cut... "KT Auleta's film backstage at Viktor and Rolf's A/W11 show presented Pat McGrath's brilliant vivid beauty looks in a vital and exciting way. It was wonderful speaking to those involved, and hearing about their visions for the make-up as well as for the collection, and this short film did justice to both, with its precise and exhilarating sense of drama."
Zoe Maughan, photographic editor of AnOther... "Rick Owens' film A Little Bit Eternal. We were lucky enough to show the exclusive film made by Danielle Levitt, which saw some beautiful intimate moments between Rick and Michele, and brief but poignant encounters with the artisans which are intrinsic to their practices. It was a real pleasure to be involved with and even more exciting to see the final film."
"It was an enormous privilege to have a meeting with Monsieur Lesage – who passed away late last year – and hearing his tales of glamorous old Hollywood and working with Lagerfeld"
Kin Woo, columnist for The Insiders..."Visiting the Chanel Metiers D'Arts in Paris. Seeing centuries-old crafts being upheld to such a high standard and witnessing young artisans being trained in the profession shows how forward-thinking Chanel was in preserving the skills of these ateliers. It was an enormous privilege to have a meeting with Monsieur Lesage – who passed away late last year – and hearing his tales of glamorous old Hollywood and working with Lagerfeld."
Agata Belcen, fashion editor of AnOther... "I really enjoy reading Donatien's An Intellectual Fashion column because he talks to interesting people who give you meaty points of view. AnOther's always been about engaging with smart people in a fun way and this column is a great example of that. Working on the Marc's Models film was a memorable experience – it was one of the first we ever commissioned for the website, when we were still learning the ropes, and we had no idea it would be such a viral hit. I think it's very darling and will be a nice moment in time to look back on."
Lucia Davies, junior editor of AnOther... "Since the site's launch, writer Harriet Walker and illustrator Zoë Taylor have consistently presented the key trends from the season’s collections in an intelligent, compelling and utterly beguiling way. Picking up on small details and subtleties, I look forward to seeing their fresh and insightful approach each article."
Mandi Lennard, Fashion PR, Creative Consultant and Loves Contributor... "The fun is in the Loves chase – I want to post something the moment it's released. Sometimes I'll see something and it's not quite right – for me – then someone else posts it a few days later, and I always think to myself: "Ha, OLD news!" I try to post product's that are current, and I like to think that a lot of what I pick up on, is a good foil for some of the high end stuff others choose – like the awesome Bloody Mary's I had at Roberta's in Bushwick last week."
"AnOther's always been about engaging with smart people in a fun way and Donatien Grau's An Intellectual Fashion column is a great example of that"
Neil Wissink, photographer for The Hunger... "Vsiting David Lynch's Silencio club in Paris as the only photographer after Lynch himself to be allowed to photograph the space – only possible because we were covering it for AnOther. Spending a few days inside a physical manifestation of the mind of David Lynch was unsurprisingly surreal, but full of visual detail, and a great experience to share with AnOther readers!"
Derek Peck, columnist for New York Minute... "My favorite experience was photographing film director Pedro Almodovar."
Mélanie Crété, digital marketing and social media manager for Dazed Group..."The Great Expectations exclusive story filmed by Ben Toms and styled by Cathy Edwards. Way before all the GIFs you can find on Tumblr, this was AnOther's first interactive animated fashion story showcasing promising designers. I love the watercolour palette, the styling and the slow motion effect."
Luke Spice, web developer of AnOther..."When the Loves mood board turned yellow! Through seeding the idea via Facebook and Twitter and the by the editors taking the lead it showed what a vibrant social network Loves can be."
Tish Wrigley, editorial intern of AnOther... "The moments when AnOther just gets it right – the dreariest day of the year is brightened by Loves turning yellow, Valentine's day is marked with a trawl through romantic stories from the archive, and, following the miserable trudge into work following the excesses of Christmas, 10 Things to Make You Smile goes live to brighten the January gloom. And after discovering the graffiti artwork on Loves, "Don't Worry, Everything Is Going To Be Amazing" is my 2012 motto."
"Fashion Equations – there is something strange, and slightly confusing, in connecting the most intellectual form of thinking with what seems to be the most futile"
Ananda Pellerin, columnist for The Hunger... "There have been so many highlights since we started the column last year. Our expeditions to Copenhagen and Tuscany, finding unexpected culinary treasures closer to home – it's impossible to choose a favourite. One moment that keeps coming back to me is from our first trip to North Road in Clerkenwell, when I had chef Christoffer Hruskova's caramelised clove parfait with sorrel leaves. This is still the most perfectly realised dessert I have ever had º and I am not always wild about afters. As we were there just shortly after starting The Hunger, it was at this moment that I knew we were on to something good.."
Nobuko Tannawa, columnist and stylist for Incoming... "Just before the launch of the site when I was given the exciting opportunity to start the Incoming column. I shot 4 MA graduates work with photographer Billly Ballard over 1 weekend! Since then the website has developed so much and has become my favourite site."
Donatien Grau, columnist for An Intellectual Fashion... "I really enjoy AnOther's Fashion Equations. There is something strange, and slightly confusing, in connecting the most intellectual form of thinking with what seems to be the most futile. Fashion seems to be all about lying, and somehow making turning that lie into reality. In other words: covering your body and reinventing yourself. Mathematics, as George Steiner famously pointed out, are the closest we can get to achieving absolute dichotomy between truth and lie. Therefore, in the idea of "fashion equations" lies a fundamental paradox. And that paradox is fundamentally attractive."
Daisy Woodward, editorial intern of AnOther... "The moments which take readers behind the scenes, looking at subjects from unexpected angles. There are so many but Kin Woo's Insiders column and its consideration of fashion’s key inside figures (many of whom are seldom interviewed) is a definite favourite – his discussion with the brilliantly eccentric Iris Apfel in particular. Similarly, I loved the recent article on Mark Colle, the talented florist for the Jil Sander A/W12 show, and the beautiful pictures which accompanied it."
Dean Mayo Davies, columnist for The Sound of Style... "My favourite AnOther moment is always the next one – the thrill of the unpredictable. There have been loads of highlights so far: the brilliant Rick Owens exclusive video for one and the formats, which have changed the game editorially in the industry; Reader as an intravenous creative feed and Loves as a new expression of desire. What AnOther does uniquely is create a context for all the things around us at the moment. Personally, I'm devoted to The Sound of Style and its ongoing, intuitive dialogue with some of the most exciting creatives making a glorious racket – whatever their medium – today."
