This year Browns celebrates 40 years since Joan Burstein CBE – known affectionately as Mrs. B by her colleagues and collaborators – and her husband Sydney founded the brand. In a special exhibition curated and set designed by Simon Costin, Browns' history is seen through the fashion that it has supported. Bringing together 40 iconic outfits including a dress from Hussein Chalayan’s buried collection, a full length Gareth Pugh A/W07 coat – Costin’s favourite – and a series of images by Paolo Roversi of the Browns brand ambassadors (designers, models, actors, musicians) wearing the clothing on show, the exhibition tells the Browns story. “We shied away from telling it in a really obvious way; it becomes apparent as you walk around the exhibition and you see the people who have been involved – they’re all the major players."
Browns: 40 years of Fashion Innovation opens at The Regent Lofts and Penthouses, The Courtyard, 16-18 Marshall Street from May 13
