Underwater currents, pulsing waves and surrealist views, Sarah Lee’s oceanic photographs were the main point of inspiration for the 10th anniversary Forte Forte collection. Influenced by reflections and translucency, alongside German dancer Pina Bausch, the capsule collection tells a whimsical tale of nature and the sea. "Ballerina mermaids", summarises Giada Forte, one half of the brother and sister power house. “Lee’s pictures of surfers and waves are always taken underwater, and this surreal and undiscovered world was perfect to portray the oneiric atmosphere of the “10” capsule collection.”
“Water represents life...fashion, just like any other artistic expression, is nothing but an interpretation of our world”
Perhaps it is the uncontrollable nature of water against the methodic construction of clothing, but fashion often looks to the sea for influence. For Forte Forte, tossing, dreamlike waves are embodied in sheer organza skirts and chiffon silk pleating, while specially woven coffee-dyed lace and traditional linen structures mimic the rocks and life forms found underwater. The collection has a beautiful sense of fragility and femininity, from the lightweight materials, to the subtly beaded collars and ruched fabrics. “Water represents life,” explains Forte, “fashion, just like any other artistic expression, is nothing but an interpretation of our world.”
