The newly opened Acne store in London pays homage to its mothership in Stockholm with a beautifully executed painting of the interior of its flagship store by renowned artist Jeremiah Goodman.
Goodman specialises in the illustration of interiors and has recreated rooms for everyone from American heiress Betsy Bloomingdale, to photographer Bruce Weber, to designers James Galanos and Bill Blass, to jewellery designer Elsa Peretti, to composer Richard Rodgers and playwright Edward Albee.
At 87 years of age, the artist showed no signs of slowing down as he welcomed the arrival of the huge canvases – shipped from his studio in New York – at the London Acne store opening. “I’m not dead yet,” he told us, “I’m going to keep going for another day or two.”
The painter has a unique way of capturing not only the aesthetic beauty of space, but enhances something of its character. “Reality was always just a word to me,” Goodman has said.
Bruce Weber, a former client of Goodman, says: “In reality our rooms are a mess and filled with books and dogs' beds. But Jeremiah’s interpretation of these rooms always makes one look as if they have the crème de la crème of taste.”
Works by other artists such as Helmut Lang and Katerina Jebb are also on show at the Acne store.
The Acne store is open now on Dover Street.
Inspired Impressions: Interior Drawings by Jeremiah Goodman, will be on show October 21 to December 22 2010 at The New York School Of Interior Design. Limited edition prints signed by the artist are available at www.deanrhysmorgan.com.
