This week New York welcomes minimalist dance-pop musician Nite Jewel, London celebrates emerging music and a vibrant new summer show, LA exhibits the ukiyo-e prints of prolific Japanese artist Hiroshige, and Goodwood takes visitors into a time warp with its Vintage festival.
Monday August 9 – Nite Jewel at The Mercury Lounge, New York
The musical offering of Ramona Gonzalez, Nite Jewel’s sound is infectious and fun. Having teamed up with two other musicians to further the project, they brighten up a New York Monday evening at the Mercury Lounge.
Tuesday August 10 – The Page Presents, London
Works by three emerging artists – Paul Robinson, Graham Carrick and Anssi Sojakka – are exhibited at The Page summer show, which focuses on mixed media, photography and video works.
Tuesday August 10 – Hiroshige: Visions of Japan at Norton Simon Museum, Los Angeles
Hiroshige’s prints are entrancing, beautiful and a great example of the popular Japanese art form. The Norton Simon Museum is currently displaying a well-rounded selection of his work.
Thursday August 12 – Sanderson Predicts at the Sanderson Hotel, London
For the last of this summer’s Sanderson Predicts series, the hotel’s popular courtyard will be filled with crazy cocktails, while electro-pop trio Fenech-Soler perform.
Friday August 13 – Vintage at Goodwood, West Sussex
Goodwood, the quintessentially English estate is taken over for three days for a festival that celebrates British fashion, film, art and design between the 1940s and the 1980s. The eclectic line-up includes Ronnie Wood, Sandie Shaw, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Gaz’s Rockin’ Blues, Princess Julia, and Jazzie B.
