Exclusive: Kalen Hollomon in Motion

An exclusive premiere of Kalen Hollomon's latest video project

Who? When it comes to artist Kalen Hollomon, we certainly have a lot to thank Instagram for. If it wasn't for the social media platform, it's a fair bet that we wouldn't be as familiar with the genius cut-out artist's work. The New York artist's first break was for American Vogue's Instagram account and Hollomon has since used his account to share his work with the world. In July this year, we asked him to create a series of exclusive World Cup collages to mark the end of the tournament. Clever, funny, cheeky, full of humour – the artist never fails to deliver.

What? We are always keen to see Hollomon's next project, which is interesting as it sits just outside of the usual fashion industry activity. As the featured artist for the Capsule tradeshow this season, Hollomon was commissioned to create several original pieces for the show in his unique cut-and-paste visual style. By mixing contemporary imagery with vintage fashion advertisements, pornography from the 80s and 90s and found photography, Hollomon's body of work speaks to "romance, sex appeal, gender and unexpected moments."

Why? To mark the upcoming Capsule women's show in Paris (beginning September 26), Hollomon created Valerie, a film that touches on his trademark themes, embracing the irreverent, fashion-literate attitude for which he's known, only this time in motion. Valerie is the visual compliment to the life-size, interactive installations of carnival-style cutouts that graced the Capsule show floors in New York and Las Vegas earlier this season.
