Who? Louise Bourgeois.
What? Over 70 fabric drawings made between 2002 – 2008, as well as four large-scale sculptures made from clothes and other domestic effects accrued over decades.
Why? At the forefront of contemporary art Louise Bourgeois’ long career spanned most of the 20th century’s avant-garde artistic movements. The late French-American artist and sculptor is world renowned for her unique and experimental approach to materials and techniques. A life-long hoarder of clothes and household items, Bourgeois cut up, re-stitched and transformed these materials into art. She remains one of the most revered artists of our time, as celebrated in the current issue of AnOther magazine by Hans Ulrich Obrist in his last interview with her.
When? Louise Bourgeois: The Fabric Works opens Hauser & Wirth’s new space at 23 Savile Row, from 15 October – 18 December.
