Who? Stephen Shore.
What? Shore’s first solo show in Berlin for over 15 years featuring 80 previously unseen works from his 1973 series Uncommon Places alongside pages from his seminal Road Trip Journal.
Why? Capturing banal scenes and objects of modern life in America on colour film, Shore’s rich and elaborate colour palette broke the convention of the time – when high-art photography was typically in black and white, and colour used for commercial photography. His signature deadpan “on the road” images and pioneering use of colour have firmly established Shore as one of the most influential and renowned art photographers of our time.
Where? Stephen Shore runs 12 November 2010 – 8 January 2011 at Sprüeth Magers, Berlin.
