Who? Ivo Bisignano, Marcela Gutierrez, Andrea Tarella and Miuccia Prada.
What? Prada’s new ‘Minimal-Baroque’ eyewear capsule collection – which was inspired by their spring/summer 2011 womenswear – seen through the eyes of three illustrators: The sunglasses’ rococo curls, shapely curves, friezes and bas-relief effects in colour combinations that include white/blue, white/black and white/honey have been beautifully reinterpreted straight off the Milan and Beijing shows into watercolours, pastels and acrylics.
Why? The must-have accessory of the season has been depicted by up and coming illustrators Bisignano, Gutierres and Tarella, who were personally hand picked by Miuccia Prada. Seeking out original, obscure and emerging talents, Prada is dedicated purveyor of fresh talent. (For her previous Prada eyewear project ‘Prada Swing’, Miuccia Prada launched an online Manga competition online open to all, in which the participants were asked to illustrate a fantasy heroine wearing Prada Swing glasses in a comic strip, with the winner’s design becoming the lead character in a Prada publication.)
Where? The Minimal-Baroque Deluxe eyewear from the show will be distributed as limited edition pieces from this month in Prada boutiques, select department stores and ILORI eyewear stores. Prada will also launch two new Minimal-Baroque models during the season in April – following the “same design matrix yet with different creative development,” the House of Prada explains.
