To mark the annual celebration, AnOther's Lovers were invited to post Valentines-themed luxury products. The history of Saint Valentine's Day dates back to Roman times when St Valentine was martyred for refusing to give up his Christian faith. Traditionally, the 14 February is a day on which lovers send flowers, offer confectionary and send greeting cards. Our Lovers presented many more luxury love-themed items, some dedicated to their special someone.
There were of course plenty of hearts – ranging from heart-shaped objects such as vintage glasses, cucumber (yes, really), topiary, a black helium balloon, an Yves Saint Laurent USB stick and a jewelled and coloured gold mounted hardstone frame by Carl Fabergé to products emblazoned with the iconic shape such as a Prada iPhone case and a gold Comme des Garçons Play T-shirt. Courtesy of Mulberry came their clever interpretation of the traditional greeting card – a unique digital heart-shaped 'love blossom' artwork for each user.
Flowers also made an appearance but not in their standard form – our Lovers presented archive floral delights from Alexander McQueen's S/S07 Sarabande show and a wedding dress from Yves Saint Laurent's S/S09 couture collection. For the intellectual Lover, there were rare copies of French erotic poetry; or the art Lover could choose from works by Elsa Schiaperilli, Keith Haring and Andy Warhol. For the olfactory Lover, there was a range of exquisite fragrances such as Le Labo's Rose, Frederic Malle's Vetiver Extraordinaire and Diptyque's Roses. No Valentines would be complete without a bit of titillation – our Lovers sought out cheeky underwear and a splayed legs clothes hanger.
And the weird and the wonderful? A champagne extinguisher, chef extraordinaire Lily Vanilli's Bleeding Hearts and an escapist love nest.
From all the team at AnOther, Happy Valentines Day!
