Polly Brown Presents a Photo Study on Sex

Can a sponge be sensual? A shoelace titillating? For the latest edition of her dedicated Column, Brown examines how mundane objects can seem remarkably erotic

Sex is everywhere if you want it to be. Beyond the idealised, conventional tropes of stimulation, titillation can be found in the most banal of subjects and scenes – the curvature of a snaking shoelace; the tacky surface of a well-worn TV remote; the pungent underarm hair of an outstretched lover; a hardboiled egg. "I wanted to explore how sexuality can be so ordinary with cheap thrills and a dirty mind," explains Brown of the concept behind her latest series. "It's supposed to be a little confessional, a little bit sexy and a little bit mundane." As such, the following objects were subject to Brown's discerning lens:

Arms
Eggs
Bath Tubs
Foil
Tube Socks
Hose Pipes
A BabyBel
Sticks
Plug Sockets
Sofas
Toothpicks
Olives
Touch Phones
Ginger
Umbrellas
Elastic Bands
Roots
Tripods
