Who? Experts in their respective fields, legendary photographer Rankin and Italian fashion and film writer Anna Battista have joined with Peroni to create an exhibition demonstrating the impressive contribution Italian fashion has made to the film industry.
What? From Sophia Loren in Boy on a Dolphin (1957) to Christian Bale in American Psycho (2000), Italian Style on the Silver Screen identifies Italian craftsmanship in some of the most visually exciting films of the past six decades. Carefully curated, the exhibition takes a chronological look at Italian fashion in film from 1948 to the present day, exploring the trademark qualities which make Italian style almost incapable of dating. Furthermore, to accompany the pieces on show, Rankin will be exhibiting a series of original and previously unseen images.
Why? Curated with the help of a number of archives including the British Film Institute, The Ferragamo Museum and the famous Tirelli Tailoring House, film clips, images and costumes taken from over 50 film titles will be on display, providing a detailed understanding of how filmmakers have, and continue to use, Italian fashion to transport their vision from storyboard to silver screen.
The Peroni Collection – Italian Style on the Silver Screen runs until 20 March at Proud Gallery, 161 King's Road, Chelsea.
