AnOther selects 10 favourites from Dover Street Market to celebrate the store's 10th birthday
Inspired by the iconic Kensington Market, Dover Street Market London first opened its doors in 2004: a sprawling six-floor emporium which has become synonymous with pushing the boundaries of concept retail. Launched by Comme des Garçons founder Rei Kawakubo and her partner Adrian Joffe, it cleverly showcases Comme des Garçons's various lines with a wealth of bespoke and international brands, including Azzedine Alaïa, Maison Martin Margiela, Céline, Jacquemus, Labour and Wait and Palace Skateboards. Dover Street Markets have since opened in New York and Ginza, but London, being the first, will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Instead of looking back, Dover Street Market are looking to the future with a month-long celebration entitled THE NEXT 10 YEARS. Activity began on September 1st, when a wooden shop front facade was unveiled bearing future themed quotes – "the material of the past is the future" – and new spaces in store, including one by Nicolas Ghesquière for Louis Vuitton. A long list of genius anniversary souvenirs – including flip flops, lunchboxes and flat pack stools, displayed on market stalls on each floor – are sold alongside designer specials from those including Gary Card, Nike and Simone Rocha.
To celebrate the official 10th birthday today, September 10th, AnOther presents 10 of the new anniversary products photographed by Benjamin Bouchet.
