Artist Eleanor Macnair presents the clean lines and floral details of Céline S/S15 in play-doh
Ruffles and flowers aren’t a common sight on a Céline catwalk, but for S/S15 Phoebe Philo added prettiness to her signature structured elegance, creating a collection that maintained order while playing with it. Crisp crescent cut-outs on one look were echoed by the streamers of fabric that flowed from the next, while stark lines in cream, navy and black were set off by high slits, macramé fringing, vibrant yellow details and cowbell ornaments at the waist. As the show proceeded, sleeves became disjointed, collapsing down the arms to form contrasting sashes, trousers widened and raw edges were seamed in contrasting thread. Soundtracked by Kate Bush’s, “This Woman’s Work”, this was a collection musing on femininity, and reaching a grown-up conclusion.
