AnOther's cover star Björk has selected surreal film The Hour-Glass Sanatorium by Wojciech Has as her chosen Love
AnOther's cover star Björk's favourite Love is the surreal film The Hour-Glass Sanatorium by Wojciech Has. With a sublime, eclectic and often eccentric style, her choice is a rather fitting one: The dreamlike world explored in this 1973 Polish film is both visually exciting and incredibly fascinating just like the experience at Björk gig.
What was your first reaction to the film?
It felt like a dream. How it goes from take to take feels similar to how ones mind works. You look at people having a conversation and then dive under the tablecloth and you are at an outdoor market 20 years earlier. And it is done with the magnificent cinematography of the Soviet Union in one take! With like 500 extras and 4 sets or something.
What's your favourite part/scene?
Impossible to pick one. I like the train scenes, they are gorgeously morbid. Perhaps I like best how the film travels from scene to scene.
Which character would you like to play?
I guess being on the music side of things might have been more tempting... Though hanging out on that set seems like it would have been very inspiring. Fun and lush!
