Each month, AnOther's editors give their fashion recommendations. November's highlights include Prada limited edition jewellery, the Dazed book launch and exhibition...
Prada Limited Edition Jewellery
This month Miuccia Prada expands her extensive design portfolio to include a limited edition range of jewellery. As seen on the S/S12 catwalk, the collection includes a beguiling range of multicoloured gems, chunky crocodile skin cuffs and a multitude of oversized resin roses. Modelled by AnOther magazine's issue 21 cover star and French screen siren Léa Seydoux, the jewellery will go on sale mid-November.
Dazed Book Launch and Exhibition
To celebrate the launch of Making It Up As We Go Along, Somerset House is hosting an exhibition of the seminal works from 20 years of Dazed & Confused. Opening this Friday November 4, the show includes work from a pantheon of cultural creatives and icons including co-founder Rankin and longstanding collaboraters Jake and Dinos Chapman, Alexander McQueen, Nick Knight and Katie Grand.
Skate at Somerset House
A London Christmas highlight, the ice rink at Somerset House opens its gates on November 22. With a number of events including club nights, skating lessons from Olympic gold medalist Jayne Torvill and Michelin-starred chef Tom Aitken’s Skate Lounge overlooking the rink, it is the perfect festive location.
Gareth Pugh x MAC
Make way for a distinctly dark and dramatic look as this month welcomes the long anticipated collaboration between fashion’s gothic insider and the make-up industry’s great innovator. Slickly packaged in black, with eyeshadows in an array of witchy shades, holographic nail paints, and angular false eyelashes, we can’t believe this perfect pairing hasn’t happened before.
Comme des Garçons iPad Case
This month’s must-have accessory comes courtesy of Comme des Garçons. Fashioned in leather, and available in a range of shades, from burgundy, lime green, navy, brown and black, the iconic brand’s range of luxurious iPad cases will be available at Dover Street Market and online from late November.
A Snapshot of Then and Now: Faces of Fashion, Style and Celebrity – Photography Auction at Christie’s
Going under the hammer on November 2, this extraordinary collection of images features the stunning fashion photography of the inimitable Helmut Newton, spreads by Norman Parkinson and Vogue cover art by Horst P. Horst. Glamorous celebrity portraits are also in abundance including a smouldering Marlon Brando, Marilyn Monroe mid-screen-test and Sex-Book-era Madonna.
Christian Louboutin Book and Film
In honour of one of the most iconic shoe designers of the past 20 years – look no further than the red-lacquered soles gracing the feet of fashion’s glitterati – November sees the release of both a Christian Louboutin book and film. Testament to the theatricality of the French designer’s craft, the book is a masterpiece of design, featuring photography by David Lynch, gilded drawings and a pop-up centrefold. The corresponding film, Les 20 ans, is a similarly fabulous affair, taking the viewer on the journey of the book’s creation, with contributions from the likes of Dita von Teese and Arielle Dombasle.
Alexander McQueen Beijing Store
Beiing gains access to Britain’s most celebrated brand this month, as Alexander McQueen opens its first boutique in China at Sanlitun North Village, Beijing’s premier luxury retail development. Spread over two floors, the store maintains the brand’s global aesthetic in the elegant proportions and beautifully lit space.
Versace x H&M
H&M’s latest addition to their roll call of exemplary designer collaborators is Donatella Versace, who has created an explosive collection with all the outlandish trademarks that stalk her catwalks. Complete with a campaign starring Abbey Lee Kershaw and Lyndsey Wixon, all shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, the launch on November 19th will bring some Italian flair to the high street.
Ilaria Nistri’s SS12 Fashion Film
Following collaborations with artists such Tomàs Saraceno and neo-avant-garde theatre company Santasangre for the presentation of previous collections, for S/S12 Italian designer Ilaria Nistri has turned to yet another art form – fashion film. Previewing at Lo Schermo dell’Arte, the annual Florentine international film festival (of which Nistri is a supporter), and directed by creative duo almagreal, the film, entitled Amygdule, is described as “a series of visions in photos and videos”, which serve to convey the imagery and inspirations behind her newest pieces.
The Conversation Re-release
Beautifully shot and definitively 70s in its washed-out colour palette, Francis Ford Coppola’s iconic film follows the story of Harry Caul (Gene Hackman), a private surveillance detective, who finds himself entangled in a dangerous mystery when he takes an unprofessionally overt interest in a conversation he has been hired to record. The employment of a chiefly subjective viewpoint slowly draws the audience into the protagonist's paranoid world, to great climactic effect.
