With sleepwear and bedding made from organic cotton, Tekla’s lustrous new sateen collection makes bedtime more enticing than ever

At a time when luxury can feel out of pace with our world, Danish lifestyle brand Tekla continues to redefine it with a commitment to sustainability and wellbeing. With their new sateen collection of bedding and sleepwear, Tekla has pushed a traditional arts and craftsmanship approach to design, anchored in quality and community, to innovate a new plane of sustainable living. “The launch of the sateen collection marks a pivotal moment in Tekla’s journey towards defining personal luxury and its commitment to working with the best materials available,” reflects Charlie Hedin, founder and creative director of Tekla. “The sateen collection took years of development to meet our high standards, so we are extremely proud to finally introduce it.”

As with each of their products, sateen is the result of a considered, careful development process. Long staple cotton fibres, sourced from Turkey and Pakistan, are used for their soft feel as well as their ability to resist pilling and colour fading. “Key to this was our commitment to responsible fibres, as we strive for all of our products to be GOTS and Oeko-Tex certified to reduce their environmental impact, in addition to meeting our stringent quality demands,” explains Hedin. The fibres are then woven, dyed, and sewn in Portugal where the company works within a compact supply chain to ensure quality. “This allows us to work very closely with our production partners and push for the highest possible quality,” he says. “We are able to have great visibility over many stages of it to ensure our high social and environmental standards are met.”

What makes Tekla stand apart is the coherent – yet somewhat unexpected – design narrative woven through material, cut, and colour. Take, for example, the new gentle colourways introduced with the sateen collection. “Sateen is known for its ability to absorb colour deeply and produce rich, saturated tones,” explains Hedin, “however to highlight the lustrous nature of the material, we decided to explore mainly softer muted colours finished with contrasting piping details.”  Rather than using colour as a siloed element, the gentle blues, pinks, whites, and stripes are in perfect alchemy with the silky touch of the fibres and the traditional cut of the midweight pyjamas.

The collection is brought to life, and placed in the everyday, through a campaign shot by photographer Ola Rindal and featuring Conie Valese – both integral members of the Tekla community. “Ola has been an integral part of our community for many years, making this partnership a natural fit,” says Hedin of the creative partnership. “Our general approach to working with external partners is varied, but it always starts with shared values and the desire to create something beautiful.” Set in Paris, Rindal’s campaign plays with a glowing, dappled light to capture the lustrous feel and aesthetic of the sateen material. The photographs are personal, pensive, and softly inquisitive – a reflection of the same quiet yet precise intelligence that underpins Tekla’s timeless design philosophy.
