Sunday afternoons have been given a glamorous lift at the new Bulgari Hotel and Residencies in Knightsbridge. Every week for La Dolce Domenica they will be holding an Italian-inspired brunch buffet and à la carte menu, where guests are invited to relax in the expansive, wood-panelled dining room while listening to jazz and swing classics and enjoying a complimentary Bloody Mary, Mimosa or glass of Prosecco.
It is an impressive spread, with full bakery, organic cereals and yoghurt, Italian cheeses and dried meats – although our advice would be to toy lightly with the buffet and go straight to the hot Italian specials. The Casarecce pasta with tomato, goat’s cheese and lemon peel is a citrusy, creamy delight, while the green asparagus risotto is light, bright, and satisfying. For dessert, we loved the boozy tiramisù, the delicate lemon and raspberry mille-feuille, and the sweet and sharp Amalfi lemon meringue tart.

Having enjoyed a luxurious late brunch, it was time to move over to the 47-seat private screening room to watch the film of the week, which happened to be one of our favourites, The Godfather. Coming up in the following weeks are screenings of Lawrence of Arabia, Back to the Future, and Annie Hall, plus in future, classics such as Raging Bull, Vertigo, The Wizard of Oz, and Breathless. After the film and to combat the pre-dinner doldrums, it was time for a few signature cocktails at the hotel’s 1940s inspired bar. The Sandalwood and Jasmine Fizz combines champagne with a heady mix of spices, and the Au Thé Vert – Tanqueray gin, lemon, oakmoss syrup and jasmine tea, was as aromatic as a rich and powerful perfume. A sweet Sunday indeed.
La Dolce Domenica brunch and film is held every Sunday at the Bulgari Hotel and Residencies.
