The AnOther editors select the top 10 things for you to do this August...
1. Kyle Bean & Blink Art Exhibition at Colette – until August 30
Artist representation company Blink's latest exhibition, at the iconic Colette boutique in Paris, features the vivid, playful works of young artist Kyle Bean. Bean creates his work – a combination of 3D pieces and prints – using a huge range of media. From toothpaste brains to a chicken made from eggshells, he breathes new life into the idea that "medium is the message."
2. London Contemporary Music Festival – until August 4
Catch the latter half of London's first ever contemporary music festival at the beginning of this month in Peckham. Highlights of the innovative musical experience include a non-stop 8-hour performance by avant-garde composer and sound artist Tony Conrad, and a show entitled Piano Activities in which a pianist literally destroys his piano. Hosted in the new arts location Bold Tendencies, this weird and wonderful music extravaganza is not to be missed.

3. Lina Scheynius exhibition – August 30 - October 19
London-based photographer and AnOther contributor Lina Scheynius' first European exhibition opens at the Christophe Guye Galerie in Switzerland later this month. Swedish born Scheynius – who has been taking photographs since she was 10-years-old – has created a seasonal visual diary, tenderly documenting intimate moments and the daily ephemera surrounding her. The 30+ collection of images were shot solely in natural lighting and provide a startlingly honest depiction of the young artists life.

4. Edinburgh Fringe Festival – August 2 - 26
A month long, all encompassing explosion of theatre, comedy, music and art, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is gearing up for it's biggest year yet, with 2871 shows running in 273 venues across the city. This year's line-up includes previous festival favourites such as the raucous EastEnd Cabaret and x-rated puppet show Avenue Q, as well as performances from Motown legends Martha Reeves and The Vandellas, and not forgetting the hundreds of unique, breakthrough shows the festival continues to offer up year upon year.
5. The Floating Cinema – until October 5, and Hot Tub Cinema – until September
Watching a film surrounded (or submerged) in water is the outdoor activity of the summer. The Floating Cinema recently set sail along the water ways of east London with its new Extra Ordinary season featuring themed dress up movie nights and ghostly river tours, plus exclusive films from up and coming directors created especially for the cinema experience. Meanwhile, Hot Tub Cinema have taken up a new residence on the roof of Rockwell House in Shoreditch, offering you the opportunity to indugle in ultimate relaxation while watching an array of new and classic films, accompanied by movie themed cocktails and a barbeque.

6. NTS Radio at Notting Hill Carnival – August 25 - 26
The August bank holiday weekend is for one thing only – the Notting Hill Carnival. The streets of west London will once again be brought to life in this celebration of Caribbean culture. This year, celebrated east London internet-only radio station NTS have teamed up with Red Stripe in a new addition to the infamous array of soundsystems. Authentic music, food and drink will be combined with performances from the NTS DJs and a host of special guests, in a bid to be the "go to" party of the prestigious carnival. 7. BFI Monster Weekend – August 29 - 31
To celebrate the opening of their Autumn season, Gothic: The Dark Heart of Film, the BFI are holding a weekend of open air film screenings of 1950s horror classics at The British Museum. The spine tingling selection includes the Terence Fisher hits Dracula and The Mummy, as well as Jacques Tourneur's Night of the Demon.
8. Chanel, Collection Superstition – on sale now
The fall beauty collection from Chanel is inspired by Gabrielle Chanel's love of lucky talismans and symbols of good fortune. Combining deep khaki eyeshadow tones with bursts of vibrant coral and pink for the lips and cheeks, it transitions perfectly between the hues of summer and the coming winter months. Three new Le Vernis nail colours top off the collection, including a limited edition olive green shade infused with a gold metallic finish.
9. Richard Rogers: Inside Out at the Royal Academy – 18 July-13 October
World-renowned architect Richard Rogers has had a more than illustrious career, creating iconic buildings such as The Pompidou Centre and Lloyd's of London. In the latest Burlington Gardens exhibition the Royal Academy explores the ideas, influences and the man behind the famous designs.
10. The Rock Rebel Classic And Contemporary Kit – August
Sergei Sviatchenko, of the Close Up & Private blog and magazine, this month releases a limited edition, menswear capsule collection taking inspiration from the mid-sixties British Invasion – a period that revolutionised menswear. In close partnership with the Premium by Jack & Jones design team, Sviatchenko has designed a literal clothing kit – from shirt, trousers and cardigan to belt, socks and tie – to deck out the modern day rock rebel from head to toe.
