The AnOther editors select the top 10 things for you to do this September from Andy Warhol in Munich to Unknown Festival in Croatia
1. Reading Andy Warhol – September 18 - January 12
Many are aware of Andy Warhol's close affinity with books and publishing and yet an upcoming exhibition at the Museum Branhorst in Munich is the first to consider the pop art master's literary creations and exploits in their entirety. Beginning with a number of illustrations made after famous novels during his student days in the 1940s, the display spans Warhol's self-published (and distributed) thematic booklets from his period as a graphic artist in the 1950s, through the illustrated tomes he went on to create in collaboration with other artists in the Factory. A complementary range of key Warhol works are also on display at Munich's Bayerische Staatsbibliothek.
2. Unknown Festival, Croatia – September 10-14
The latest addition to the growing Croatian music festival scene, Unknown Festival debuts on September 10. From the same promoters as Hideout Festival, The Warehouse Project and Field day, the 4-day event hosts boat parties, pool parties, multiple stages and a host of artistic treats by Mad Ferret Productions, Kid Acne x Unit and Painted by Pixies. Set in Rovinj on the coastline of North Croatia, headlining artists include Jessie Ware, SBTKRT, The Horrors, Django Django and Four Tet amongst others.

6. John Baldessari, 1+1=1 at Moscow's Garage Center For Contemporary Culture – September 21 - November 24
The first exhibition of Baldessari's work to be shown in Russia, 1+1=1 is a display of the celebrated artist's most recent completed series of paintings which offers "a playful 'double take' on the canon of art history". In each work, Baldessari has reinterpreted a masterpiece – by the likes of de Chirico, Duchamp and Hockney – working from reproductions of the pieces in art history textbooks. The resulting paintings are a fascinating extension of Baldessari's "longstanding investigations onto the tensions between text and image."
7. Francis Bacon & Henry Moore: Flesh and Bone – September 12 - January 19
A new major exhibition at Oxford's Ashmolean museum will bring together 20 paintings by iconic figurative artist Francis Bacon and 20 sculptures by his esteemed contemporary Henry Moore. The display will consider themes such as the respective artists' treatment of the human figure and the effect of the violence of the twentieth century upon their work, drawing surprising parallels between the two men who have rarely been linked prior to now.

10. Kasia Bobula: Backstage – September 6 - October 14
AnOther contibuting photographer Kasia Bobula's latest exhibition opens at Galeria w Lesie in Warsaw this month. Entitled Backstage, it will showcase Bobula's skillfully captured behind-the-scene snapshots from an array of fashion shows, for publications including AnOther, The New York Times Style Magazine and Dazed & Confused. She tells us, "There is quite an abstract element to all photos that are in the show, focusing not so much on the clothing, but more on specific girls, situations and also venues of the selected shows, be it a row of empty benches in a dimly-lit car park (Thomas Tait), an incredibly ornate staircase (Valentino Couture), or a forest in the mist that is actually part of the set at the McQ Alexander McQueen show."
