Supreme Interiors asks us to revel in the space where we'll spend most of our lives
There's an old saying that goes something like "get yourself a good bed and a nice pair of shoes, because when you're not in one you're in the other." I may have butchered the quote, but the point comes across and as far as cheesy sayings go this one seems legit. An average person spends about a third of their life sleeping, so it makes sense that your bed should be pretty damn comfortable.
But to be honest, my bed is not comfortable. For me, and I'm sure like a lot of people, the purchase of a bed tends to be an afterthought. For one, mattresses are expensive and they're not really the type of purchase you want to make second hand. As much as I'd like to parade around the mattress shop auditioning every quilted pillow-top in a quest for the perfect amount of firm coupled with the right amount of softness – I don't. I look for the two least expensive mattresses and begrudgingly buy the one that is a little less uncomfortable. Another strike against the bed comes down to their size. For someone that moves around as much as I do, my belongings are often filtered down to what can easily fit in my SUV and unfortunately that means mattresses don't really stick around very long.
This is a shame, really, because it leaves something to be desired when it comes to most beds. They're big uncomfortable rectangles that take up a bunch of floor space and just sit there for the majority of the day without being used. And we have whole rooms devoted to these guys! Even bigger boring boxes to hold our big boring mattresses covered in big boring blankets. But it doesn't have to be this way! I look at images of vintage interiors and I covet the enthusiasm and energy that went into preparing these bedrooms. Maybe one day I'll have a bed that hangs from the ceiling or a four-poster lucite frame with mirrored ceiling. Maybe one day I'll be able to throw a mattress in the middle of the room with some pillows and have it be the most brilliant night's sleep I've ever had. Maybe one day I'll love my bed. Until then, I have pictures.
