Embellishment reigned over Olivier Rousteing’s hyper-extravagant Balmain Autumn/Winter 2017 collection, during a show which saw him send sequin- and jewel-encrusted creations down a reflective catwalk (all the better to see yourself in). So too however did a touch of animal kingdom grunge, in rich, pervasive suede, snakeskin and shearling. What happens when such a dichotomy travels out to the sticks to wrestle with livestock and clamber through haystacks?
“The shoot was based around the idea of glamping,” photographer Brianna Capozzi explains, “but we wanted to break it down in a more abstract way.” Subverting the associations of luxurious yurts and bubble baths usually associated with ‘glamorous camping’, here it’s the women themselves who epitomise glamour: “It’s about the clash of muddy Mother Nature with the decadent clothing and accessories of Balmain.”
