The designer behind ASAI tells AnOther what he would buy his mother this weekend if money was no object
Mothering Sunday is upon us this weekend and along with it the usual last-minute petrol-station bouquets and Best-Mum-in-the-World-themed merchandise. But what if you could give your mother everything she ever wanted? In answer, London’s brightest young designers have compiled imaginary shopping lists for their own – here, London-based A Sai Ta of ASAI pays ode to his mother with four fantasy gifts: from a tropical bird to a Rolls-Royce for a trip to Tesco.
“I could write a whole essay about what she means to me... My mother has always insisted that I chase what makes me happy, which has allowed me to make my own mistakes and pursue my dreams. She means the world to me and is a big part of the reason I have so much hunger to succeed. I want so much to make her proud and spoil her. I’ve witnessed her sacrifices and formidable strength across the course of the incredible journey she’s been on in life. She really is an embodiment of my woman, especially spiritually.” – A Sai Ta
1. Sponsor a bird
“My mum has always wanted a speaking parrot, so I would sponsor a tropical bird for her.”
2. A face massager
“Nurse Jamie face massager – tried and tested, it’s really good and sturdy, better than the jade ones!”
3. Spa day
“A spa day at the Four Seasons and afternoon tea, just because your mum deserves to be spoilt.”
4. Rolls-Royce for tea and Tesco
“Hire a Rolls-Royce for the day to drive us to high tea, and to Tesco for her weekly shop!”
