The former AnOther cover star will be the first woman of colour to helm an LVMH maison
After months of speculation, luxury conglomerate LVMH has confirmed that Rihanna is set to become part of its prestigious roster with fashion label Fenty, finding the singer and make-up mogul alongside the likes of storied Parisian maisons Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Givenchy and Celine, among others. Set to be revealed in the coming weeks, Fenty – named, like her beauty label, after her full name Robyn Rihanna Fenty – marks the first new brand to be lauched by LVMH since Christian Lacroix in 1987, and sees the former AnOther cover star become the first woman of colour to helm an LVMH maison.
Encompassing ready-to-wear, accessories and shoes, Fenty is expected to see Rihanna continue the luxury sportswear she showed under previous label Fenty x Puma, albeit with the savoir faire of the artisans available to her as part of LVMH. “Designing a line like this with LVMH is an incredibly special moment for us,” she said this morning in a statement. “Mr. Arnault has given me a unique opportunity to develop a fashion house in the luxury sector, with no artistic limits. I couldn’t imagine a better partner both creatively and business-wise, and I’m ready for the world to see what we have built together.”
There is no word yet as to whether Fenty will show as part of the fashion week schedule, nor whether it will have its own dedicated stores. A new logo, though, was released: Fenty, written on a blue background, alongside a symbol taking the shape of a Greek key. A new Instagram account @fenty was also launched, alongside a website, www.fenty.com.
