In news announced this morning, Kim Jones is set to join the Italian house of Fendi as artistic director of women’s collections. Jones – who is currently artistic director of Dior’s menswear, and will continue in that role; both Fendi and Dior are owned by the luxury conglomerate LVMH – will take on the position previously held by the late Karl Lagerfeld, overseeing Fendi’s haute couture, ready-to-wear and fur collections for women.

The brand announced that Jones’ first collection will be ready-to-wear Autumn/Winter 2021, revealed in February at Milan Fashion Week. As Lagerfeld did, Jones will work alongside Silvia Venturini Fendi at the Italian house as she continues as artistic director of accessories and menswear.

“I would like to profoundly thank Monsieur Arnault, Pietro Beccari, Serge Brunschwig and Silvia Venturini Fendi for this incredible opportunity,” Jones said in a statement. “Working across two such prestigious houses is a true honour as a designer and to be able to join the house of Fendi as well as continuing my work at Dior Men’s is a huge privilege.”

Venturini Fendi has been overseeing the house’s womenswear collections since the passing of Lagerfeld in February of 2019, making her debut for the Spring/Summer 2020 season in September that year. She added: “My warmest welcome to Kim, to whom I am bound by deep respect and friendship. I am looking forward to taking the Fendi universe to the next level with him.”
