The house reveals its Spring/Summer 2021 collection and the process of creating it in a Nick Knight-shot film

Yesterday, Maison Margiela revealed its Spring/Summer 2021 collection by John Galliano in a film by Nick Knight, entitled S.W.A.L.K. II. The film, in a true reflection of the times, begins with footage taken from Zoom conversations between Galliano and his collaborators, including Knight, as they formulate the plan for the project.

We see Galliano discuss the conception of the collection, which takes inspiration from the tango, and the process of creating it. Later in the film, which can be viewed below, we see Galliano’s muses – among them, Leon Dame of runway walk fame, and Malick Bodian – perform this and other dances on a floor that is flooded with water.

The collection arrives in the wake of the release of AnOther Magazine Autumn/Winter 2020, which features extraordinary imagery capturing Galliano’s Autumn/Winter 2020 Maison Margiela Artisanal collection by Willy Vanderperre and Olivier Rizzo.

Accompanying this is an interview with the designer himself, conducted by AnOther Magazine editor-in-chief Susannah Frankel, in which he discusses his 1986 Fallen Angels collection, the Blitz Kids and his experience meeting the famously reclusive Margiela.
