The brand has teamed up with British collage artist Jazz Grant to create a giant wall painting dedicated to the footballer
This month, Burberry revealed its latest collaboration with Marcus Rashford, unveiling a street mural in Manchester dedicated to the footballer’s career and childhood. The giant painting was created by British collage artist Jazz Grant, and features overlaying images of young and old Rashford, with splashes of the classic Burberry check.
The mural is part of the brand’s ongoing youth initiative, announced in November, which aims to empower disadvantaged young people across the world. The project was set up in partnership with Rashford, who won an MBE earlier this year for his courageous efforts to end child food poverty in the UK.
So far, the Burberry initiative has announced grants for selected community projects in London and Manchester. It will also provide support for arts-after-school non-profit Wide Rainbow in New York, as well as for the International Youth Foundation, which works with community leaders and young people in Asia and beyond.
Jazz Grant’s vibrant tribute to the footballer can be seen on Thomas Street, which is located in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. It was uncovered on December 17, and will remain in the space until January 4. “It was all about creating something uplifting, positive and dynamic with a sense of community and supporting the youth,” says Grant. “I wanted it to feel really exciting but also to have subtle textures and tones, essences of its immediate surroundings, so that in a way it blended into its environment.”
The mural is live from 17 December until 4 January 2021 at 31 Thomas Street, Manchester M4 1NA. Learn more about Burberry and Marcus Rashford’s global youth initiative here.
