As part of Dazed Media’s new series Making It Up As We Go Along, AnOther’s editor-in-chief, Susannah Frankel, and fashion features director, Alexander Fury, will sit down to discuss the magazine’s two-decade history
Last month, Dazed Media launched Making It Up As We Go Along – a monthly series of free talks and workshops hosted by the editors behind Dazed, AnOther, and Nowness, which aims to help young people break into the creative industries. The latest instalment of the Dazed Academy series will see AnOther’s editor-in-chief, Susannah Frankel, and fashion features director, Alexander Fury, sit down to discuss the evolution of AnOther Magazine over the past two decades.
Coinciding with AnOther’s 20th anniversary – which we recently celebrated with the release of our new issue, AnOther Magazine Spring/Summer 2021, which is a love letter to fashion and the creative forces which inspire us – the 20 Years of Making a Magazine talk will see Frankel and Fury share insights into the fashion industry and their award-winning careers as journalists and authors. The conversation will be followed by questions from the floor.
The talk follows last month’s opening event, ‘How to Get Your Foot In The Door’, which saw AnOther’s deputy editor Ted Stansfield interview Dazed’s newly instated executive editorial director Lynette Nylander about her journey into the industry. Alongside sharing her personal experiences at i-D and Teen Vogue, Nylander gave practical advice on internships, creating a strong CV, and pitching pieces to publications.
The Making It Up As We Go Along programme has much more in store for the coming months too, including a Styling Workshop 101 with Dazed’s new editor-in-chief Ib Kamara; How To Use Your Writing To Make A Positive Social Change with Dazed Digital’s editor Anna Cafolla; and How To Have An Engaging Social Media Presence with senior Instagram editor Vanessa Hsieh and social media editor Marios Mystidis.
“At a time where people have been stuck at home, schools closed and education put on hold, Making It Up As We Go Along aims to empower the future of young people from all over the world and give them the tools and the confidence to carve out their own path into the creative industries,” said Nylander in a statement. “We want this event series to be a place for equal opportunity and exchange and break down the barriers between our audience and the magazine, passing on Dazed’s 30 years of knowledge and expertise.”
‘20 Years of Making a Magazine’ will take place on Zoom at 3pm BST on Thursday 15 April. Sign up here.
