Along with some overdue – though short-lived – sunshine, the month of June has brought with it a flurry of exciting seasonal releases and openings to indulge in and experience. From a market of covetable Marni bits and pieces at Matches Fashion’ 5 Carlos Place to Rick Owens’ twist on the classic Birkenstock sandal, and much more, we take you through the best shopping this month has to offer below.
Balenciaga Pride Collection
In celebration of Pride Month, Balenciaga has unveiled a new capsule collection of rainbow-emblazoned clothes and accessories. 15 per cent of proceeds are pledged to the Trevor Project, a suicide prevention and crisis intervention organisation for LGBTQ+ young people.
Marni Market at Matches
Keen to brighten up your living space this June? Look no further than Matches’ 5 Carlos Place for inspiration, where Marni have erected a homeware and design market space aplomb with summery hand-woven chairs, rocking chairs, benches and stools, as well as an array of accessories ranging from resin trays to fruit baskets and relaxed tote bags.
Phipps World Oceans Day
Marking World Oceans Day on June 8, menswear label Phipps has collaborated with Oceanic Global on a sustainably-crafted knitted jumper and T-shirt which reads “Save the Fucking Whales.” Alongside the release, 15 per cent of all the label’s webstore proceeds will be donated to Oceanic Global for the month of June. “I fucking love the ocean, and would like to get everyone excited about taking care of it,” says the founder of the brand, Spencer Phipps.
Rick Owens x Birkenstock
Nothing says summer like a classic pair of Birkenstocks. This month, Rick Owens offers up a subversive take on the classic sandal – marking the American designer‘s third collaboration with the brand – unveiling a collection of all-black styles featuring hole-detailing, utility clasps, and sheeny PVC.
Raf Simons x Fred Perry
“A polo shirt is a polo shirt, but the Fred Perry polo shirt always brings a vibe of youth subculture,” once said Raf Simons. This summer, the lauded Belgian designer continues his years-long partnership with the rebellious British label, together unveiling a punk-influenced collection which features printed imagery of London nightlife in the early 1980s.
KNWLS Jeans, Shoes, and Accessories
This week, Charlotte Knowles and Alexandre Arsenault teased an upcoming collection of jeans, shoes and accessories for their newly-rebranded label KNWLS, via a sensual campaign shot by AnOther contributor Carlijn Jacobs. Though exact details of the release are yet to be revealed, the 2000s-inflected collection will be available later this summer.
Dior
This month marks the arrival of Kim Jones’ new bag for Dior men’s. Named the Lock Bag, the sleek and functional design arrives in a camera bag style as well as two mini clutch options, and is available in an array of poppy summer colours. June also sees the opening of a Dior pop-up store in the heart of Selfridges, London – as well as a Dior-themed transformation of the store’s rooftop restaurant – in celebration of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s new Dioriviera capsule collection.
Acqua Di Parma x Fila
This year sportswear label Fila turns 110. To celebrate, the brand has teamed up with another Italian label, Acqua di Parma, on a limited edition set which pairs the fresh and heady fragrance Blu Mediterraneo Arancia di Capri with Fila’s terry-lined tyvek windbreaker. The release intends to mark the anniversary with a “boost of energy and positivity”.
JW Anderson
Following years of sold-out sneaker collaborations, this summer Jonathan Anderson is releasing a new collection of unisex trainers under his namesake label. Constructed from leather and canvas with thick rubber bases, the playful style was created to appear as if “just dipped into vats or these vibrant colours. Really over saturated.”
John Lobb
Heritage British bootmaker John Lobb is opening two new stores on either side of the pond this June. Both designed by French architecture studio ciguë – which is accredited to several visually pleasing Aesop stores, Isabel Marant showrooms and spaces within Dover Street Market – the new stores are located on 51 rue François 1er in Paris and Brighton Way in Beverly Hills.
Paco Rabanne
Paco Rabanne’s summer capsule collection was designed to be “optimistic in concept and uplifting in attitude,” according to the label. Encompassing 70s-style sportswear, retro-cut swimwear, and the return of the label’s Peter Saville ‘Lose Yourself’ T-shirt collaboration, the cheerful release is crafted in holiday hues of sunshine yellow, deep navy and hot red.
Raeburn x Boardies
Combining a shared love of the oceans and biodiversity, sustainably-focused label Raeburn have partnered with lifestyle brand Boardies on a capsule collection of bright beachwear, which includes swim shorts, Hawaiian shirts and towels.
