Altered States Magazine Has Launched a Photo Print Sale

Subversive beauty magazine Altered States is raising funds for Oxygen for India, Children Of Peace, and Young Minds with its new photographic print sale

Altered States isn’t your typical beauty magazine. Approaching beauty through a “subcultural lens,” the defiant publication’s debut issue – brought to life by co-founders Michael Harding and Hannah Elwell last October – compiles an arresting mix of lesser-told beauty stories. This ranges from a loving look at London’s LGBTQ+ skate scene, to early 90’s documentary photography of sex workers in New York’s Meatpacking District, to 70’s portraits of Russian people during the Cold War.

This week, the magazine has extended its boundary-pushing ethos to a new charitable print sale, which includes an array of captivating alt-beauty imagery by the likes of Douglas Irvine, Jordan Hemingway, Tom Johnson, Samuel Bradley, Geordie Wood, Ian Kenneth Bird, Sarah Stedeford, Chieska Fortune Smith, Daniel Ciufo and Gary Gill.

The sale runs until the end of July, and sees all proceeds split between three charities: Oxygen for India, which is delivering lifesaving medical oxygen India amid the country’s ongoing Covid crisis; Children Of Peace, a children’s charity organisation dedicated to building trust, friendship and reconciliation between Israeli and Palestinian children; and Young Minds, a UK-based charity empowering young people with “tools to look after their mental health.” A portion of proceeds from Altered States’ second issue, which is set to drop this July, will also be split between these three charities.

“We had such a positive response to some of the new issue images we posted on social that we thought if we made available a run of limited editions to buy we could raise money for charities that we felt were really important to support even more during these times,” says Altered States editor-in-chief Michael Harding. “The feedback from the contributors was great as they were all down for the cause and really excited. Some of the photographers wanted to target specific charities so the work they donated reflected that.”

Buy your print from the Altered States Print Sale here. Each print is sized 10 x 12 inches and is priced at £100.
