The singer, who launched the company this weekend, has also teased a potential Prada collaboration

This weekend, Frank Ocean announced the launch of Homer: his new, luxury fine jewellery company. The ethically-minded brand – inspired by the musician’s “childhood obsessions” – uses handcrafted 18-carat gold, recycled sterling silver and state of the art, lab-grown diamonds. The result is a series of bold colourful statement pieces, including pendants, earrings, chains and tongue rings, as well as some silk scarves.

“Mostly because it’s five letters and the dotcom was available,” Ocean said of why he chose to call the brand Homer, speaking in an exclusive interview with the Financial Times that came out on Saturday. “But also because Homer is considered the father of history and history is meant to endure – the same as diamonds and old – and I know Homer used papyrus, but I’ve always liked the idea of carving history into stone.”

The majority of Homer’s designs can be seen on the official website, via the pages of a scanned, zine-style catalogue. There are also hints of a potential Prada collaboration, with the publication interspersed with a selection of nylon bags and jackets, labelled by the Italian fashion house, along with the footer note “coming soon”.

The majority of photography – including the catalogue cover – is shot by Ocean himself, with extra campaign imagery courtesy of his frequent collaborator, Tyrone Lebon. The products themselves are designed in New York City, and handmade in Italy (aside from the lab-grown diamonds, which are created in America). However, they are also fairly exclusive: all pieces are only available to buy in-person, via appointment, at the Homer store in Manhattan.

The Homer store opens today (9 August), and is located at 70-74 Bowery, New York. To make an appointment, visit the brand’s official website.
