New York Fashion Week continues apace, with presentations from the likes of Victoria Beckham, Rag & Bone and Y-3, all of whom were clearly feeling a blast of Olympic inspiration. Taking a step back from nipped in waists and long dresses, the S/S12 collections were unanimous in an air of understated chic, with garments that flowed rather than constricted, and an unexpected number of trainers and flats.
Victoria Beckham maintained her characteristically sexy formula with leather leggings and military caps. However, sporty and practical elements were there in droves: racer back dresses, boxy satin hooded tops and her first ever flat sandal. Rag & Bone also showed satin hoods, attached to cape like dresses and accessorised with clear plastic glasses, whose elasticated straps and positioning atop of models' heads were strongly reminiscent of swimming goggles. The Y-3 look incorporated fresh make up and underdone hair, matched with slogan T-shirts, voluminous mid length shifts, and trainer heels.
Agata Belcen, AnOther's Fashion Editor on Victoria Beckham: "Following in the designs of American sportswear originators Clare Potter and Claire McCardell, the Victoria Beckham S/S11 collection – with confederate capped models – felt at home on the New York schedule."
