“I want to design for women to feel comfortable, secure and happy with what they’re wearing, wherever they go,” says the Amsterdam-based designer
Woolrich has revealed a multi-season partnership with the Amsterdam-based designer Daniëlle Cathari, who is best known for her thoughtful deconstruction of classic womenswear shapes under her eponymous label.
Last year, while doing some research in Woolrich’s extensive archives – the brand was founded in 1830, making it the US’s oldest continuous outdoor clothing manufacturer – Cathari stumbled upon an out-of-circulation 80s label for ‘The Woolrich Woman’, which formed the starting point for her first collection, launching this autumn.
Marking a revival of ‘The Woolrich Woman’, Cathari’s collection melds 80s shapes and textures, hallmarks of Woolrich craftsmanship, and her own signature deconstructionist design philosophy. Revealed in an playful campaign, the collection encompasses an array cropped puffa jackets and matching mini skirts in earthy browns and creams, cosy fleeces and merino knits in nostalgic jigsaw colour-ways, and classic gingham scarves.
“It truly is an honor to be given the opportunity to work with such an iconic company,” says Cathari. “To revive ‘The Woolrich Woman’ is of sentimental and personal value to me; the way I envision this woman is shaped by my own experiences of becoming a woman. How you feel has everything to do with how you dress. I want to design for women to feel comfortable, secure and happy with what they’re wearing, wherever they go.”
The Woolrich Woman by Daniëlle Cathari is avaiable now.
