If orange isn’t your colour look away now. Opening the Marc by Marc Jacob’s show for womenswear was a tangerine shift dress and for men’s a suit in hazmat. And, if you thought the hue would ease off think again: throughout the show orange featured across smock tops, skirts, shorts, trousers and swimwear. Most interesting however was its use in the finer details – note the trim on the dusty blue coat, the buttons on the short-sleeved shirt, the soles of the heels and the straps and inner of the oversized navy tote. Evolving the stripe motif as seen in his S/S11 show – Jacob’s employed the pattern again for S/S12 in guess what? Orange (separated with navy and white). Silhouettes came boxy and neat with more of a focus on construction compared with previous seasons. The use of block colour in neon-brights and angular cuts gave way to a Bauhaus feel and an overall more commanding look.
Paul Wagenblast, AnOther’s New York correspondent on Marc by Marc Jacobs: “Marc by Marc Jacobs was solid day-glo colorblocking classics, a neon American beach party. The hi-top puff sneakers and duffel tote bags, all in bright pinks and greens, had the look of a day at the Rockaways with the kids from Bushwick.”
