Last night, New York Fashion Week closed with the most anticipated show of the week. Marc Jacobs used futuristic fabrics such as airtex organza and silicone and created shapes and silhoettes that – unlike last season's restricted latex pencil skirt – were fluid and luminescent. Shine was more sheen and the look was a loose mix of styles and feathery or plastic textures, all washed down in pastels and tied up with tinsel chiffon headbands. The ultimate mashup, given the right palette and texture, is so easy and fun; there's a certain something about 'running out the door' that will always be cool. With an eye on 'feeling futuristic', as Jacobs demonstrates, it can be smartly done too.
