Making It Up As We Go Along returns with a new monthly programme of talks and workshops on fashion, art, photography, film, events and music
Making It Up As We Go Along, the monthly programme of educational events put on by Dazed editors, is back. Taking place at the Dazed Space in 180 The Strand, the talks and workshops are designed to help the next generation of writers, photographers, creative directors, stylists, graphic designers and event planners. “This year we are re-launching the series IRL,” says IB Kamara, editor-in-chief of Dazed. “Last year during lockdown the series took place over Zoom, attracting over 6,000 attendees with people tuning in globally from continents including Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, South America and Australia. The reach was amazing - but nothing beats in person interaction.”
Ever wondered how to make a magazine? Gareth Wrighton, art director of Dazed, has got you covered; on March 1, he will be joining the Dazed design team to discuss storyboarding, commissioning, creating layouts and producing shoots – they will even dish on how they created that recent Harry Styles cover.
For budding writers, the programme will also feature a journalism crash course with Dazed’s arts and culture editor-at-large Ashleigh Kane, digital fashion features director Emma Davidson, music editor-at-large Natty Kasambala and beauty editor Alex Peters. Elsewhere, there are talks on being a fashion assistant, masterminding creative projects at Dazed Studio, coding, and organising high-profile fashion events both IRL and URL. More talks will be announced soon, including workshops with IB Kamara and Dazed’s executive editorial director Lynette Nylander.
