From the niche new beauty brands doing something different, to the industry’s evergreen icons, Tish Weinstock opens up AnOther’s dream vanity. Next up – a nourishing scalp serum for texture-rich hair
- Who should use it? Anyone with texture-rich hair and a deep respect for traditional beauty rituals. Those with fine hair should use it as a pre-cleanse treatment only
- How long until I love it? Luxury hair care in a bottle, it’s love at first use. Better still THOM is all about loving and looking after yourself. So it’s love all round
- How planet-/people-friendly is it? Pretty friendly. From ethical sourcing to sustainable packaging, for Cyndia, it’s all about taking responsibility
- How do I use it? Think of your scalp serum as the first step in your hair care routine. A pre-cleanse ritual to reset, detoxify and exfoliate product build-up on the scalp before you even think about shampoo. Simply massage a few droplets onto the scalp until it’s completely absorbed and then cleanse and wash as normal. For those with texture-rich hair, you can also use it after you’ve shampooed for long-lasting scalp nourishment and to promote hair growth
The best inventions come from a place of necessity, and for hair stylist Cyndia Harvey there is nothing more necessary than self-care and respect for one’s heritage. It is upon these principles that she and her business partner, artist Remi Ajani, founded luxury hair care brand This Hair Of Mine.
Reinventing hair care as a form of self-care, THOM was created especially for those with texture-rich hair. Beyond that, the brand is a space that celebrates the beauty of Black history, tradition and identity – something that has hitherto been eclipsed within luxury hair care.
Approaching hair exactly as you would your skin, THOM starts with the scalp, following the notion that good growth starts with respect for the source. Enter: the Scalp Serum. Using a powerful blend of botanical actives, the scalp serum works to cleanse the scalp of product build-up as well as nourish the area to promote healthy hair growth. You have your pea peptide, which works to stimulate the hair follicle stem cells, as well as your pomegranate enzyme, a natural AHA, which gently exfoliates dead skin cells that accumulate on the scalp surface. Elsewhere, moringa, baobab, and squalene work to keep the scalp well moistened, hydrating and rejuvenating hair from the root, while boreal algae detoxifies and regenerates the skin.
Designed as the first step in your hair care routine, this is as much about the ritualistic act of self-care, of nourishing your scalp, as it is about the end result. Although, the end result is pretty epic.
