At the Gothic Bar in London’s St Pancras, guests including Kate Moss and Kim Jones came together to celebrate the second issue of the creative director’s cult magazine
Last week, Alister Mackie welcomed guests to celebrate issue two of The Leopard, a publication celebrating queer life in all of its creativity, sensuality and DIY glamour. First launched back in 2018, the new issue features photography by Alasdair McLellan, Jet Swan, Brett Lloyd and Nikolai von Bismarck, as well as artwork by Salman Toor and Alex Foxton. There are interviews with Rick Owens, authors Nicola Dinan and Paul Mendez, written meditations on cult American filmmaker Kenneth Anger and Francis Bacon’s infamous studio, and much more. Showcasing the work of brand-new talent alongside countercultural trailblazers from generations past, Mackie worked alongside art director Jamie Reid and editor Ted Stansfield to bring the latest issue to fruition.
Held last Thursday evening at the Gothic Bar at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel in London, guests took the ‘leopard’ theme literally, with many attendees wearing exclusive merchandise created by the magazine: caps made in collaboration with young London designer Aaron Esh (£50), a reissue of the iconic velvet leopard-print top (£180), and a made-to-order robe hand-blocked in India (£2,400). The location fit the theme perfectly, with the bar’s plush, glamorous peacock-print velvet banquettes and ornate, painted high ceiling a staple of the Gothic Revival style.
With DJ sets from Paul Hameline and Princess Julia, and drinks courtesy of Ruinart, Belvedere and Hennessy, established and emerging creatives from the worlds of fashion, art and culture were in attendance. This included Kate Moss, Kim Jones, Devon Ross, Maximilian Davis, Jade Jagger, Anna Cleveland, Jefferson Hack, Andreas Kronthaler, Serena Rees, Christopher Kane, Katy England, Dilara Findikoglu, Pam Hogg, Ceval, Jonas Gloer, Kiki Willems and Nikolai Von Bismarck.
They were joined by Wolf Gillespie, Peter Hawkings, Jess Hallett, Kim Sion, Aaron Esh, Sam Gainsbury, Lili Sumner, MJ Harper, Lux Gillespie, Jess Morris, Vincent Rockins, Stephen Isaac Wilson, Simon B Morch, Brett Lloyd, Jet Swan, Amelia Abraham, Jack Lovatt, Bunny Kinney and more.
