The second edit from the designer’s ‘seasonless’ namesake fashion brand has finally arrived
You probably don’t need reminding about last year’s much-anticipated Phoebe Philo comeback. With the unveiling of the inaugural edit from the ex-Céline creative director’s namesake House in late 2023 came the promise of a new way of doing things. The House itself, she said, represented “a seasonless, continuous body of work” that would eschew traditional seasonal releases for Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter. Unsurprisingly, the first edit swiftly sold out when it arrived later that year. And now, approximately four months later, it’s the turn of the second.
In a stripped-back campaign that showcases the new release – also known as the “second edit” – Phoebe Philo’s scarlet logo is laid over images of a cast including German actor Sandra Hüller, billed in an accompanying press release as “one of the most accomplished talents of her generation, renowned for her intimate, intelligent and fearless performance on stage and screen”. This renown is self-evident, of course, from Hüller’s acting nominations this year alone, with her recognised for leading and supporting roles, respectively, in Anatomy of a Fall and The Zone of Interest.
The clothes themselves, which span 60 new styles, are typical of Philo’s distinctive fashion philosophy. Subtle tailoring is worn in masculine silhouettes, pinstriped shirts with a sharp popped collar, and utilitarian khaki jackets with big, bold-framed sunglasses. Doubling down on the characteristic theme of utility are expansive leather handbags, appearing alongside pillowy padded scarves and tassel mules fringed with black leather. Select product from the first edit are also included in the new drop, just in case you missed out the first time around.
With the latest edit now available on the House’s website, three further deliveries are set to arrive over the course of March, April and May. That’s not all Phoebe Philo fans have to look forward to, either, with the third edit (presumably dubbed the “third edit”) scheduled to drop in autumn 2024.
